About Burr Boutwell.
Burr’s passion for building started at a very young age observing his father, Burr Boutwell Sr., who was a prominent Architect in Portland, Oregon. Burr decided to follow his fathers footsteps and study Architecture at Washington State University. Two years later, followed by the sudden death of his Father, Burr left WSU. Despite requests from the Dean of the school of Architecture to continue in the Architecture program, Burr’s sense of loyalty drove him to be closer to home and his family, therefore enrolling in the construction engineering management program at Oregon State University.
Graduating with honors from OSU, Burr immediately started his career in commercial construction working as a civil estimator with Hoffman Construction in Portland, Oregon.
Owner of Bright Works Inc, which was incorporated in May 2003. Projects include technically challenging construction and renovations in commercial and residential.
Construction Manager 1997 – 2003 with Bingham Construction in Portland, Oregon. Responsible for project management, pre-construction, scheduling, estimating, and construction of all projects.
Senior Project Manager/Estimator 1991 – 1997 with Koll Construction. As a member of the management team, Burr was responsible for project management, pre-construction, scheduling, and estimation of all negotiated and competitively bid projects.
Senior Project Manager 1988 – 1991 with Koll Construction. Responsible for managing a number of complex projects in size from $4.5 million to $10.8 million. Responsible for the negotiation and management of construction of the Sports and Fitness Center (Bo Jackson) at Nike.
Project Manager 1985 – 1988 with Koll Construction. Responsible for managing a series of projects ranging in size from $1.1 million to $3.5 million. Gained extensive experience in all facets of project management including estimation, computer scheduling, value engineering, contract negotiating, quality control, risk management, and writing subcontract agreements.
Project Engineer 1984 – 1985 with Koll Construction. Assisted other Project Managers on various complex projects while managing a number of tenant improvements.
Project Manager/Estimator 1980-1984 with Dillingham Construction in Portland, OR. Worked in commercial construction with quantity take-offs, subcontracts, scheduling, hard money and conceptual estimates.
